Three day Oct Long weekend, warming water and a fresh spring bite. Here's the local lowdown before you load up.
What's biting
Dusky flathead are the stars, cruising the weed edges and sand flats on the run-out. Bream are keen around the oyster racks and rock walls at first light. Trumpeter whiting are moving back onto the shallow flats on the incoming tide, and there's still a chance of a late mulloway in the deeper creek holes after dark. Luderick are around the weedy wharf pylons too.
Watch out for
Expect plenty of holiday traffic, so go early or late. Mind the oyster leases and racks (look but don't tie up), skinny water on low tide sandbars, and moored boats around the ramp.Â
Sneaky quiet spots
Dodge the crowds at the Mallabula Point and Tanilba Bay foreshores, or tuck into the quiet creek corners off the main channel. Shore-based anglers can wade the edges at dawn for flathead, but check the tide first.
TIDES:
Sat High 2:15pm
Sun High 4:30pm
Mon High 5:52am and 5:48pm
Family-friendly fishing
Head to the Lemon Tree Passage foreshore and wharf. It's safe, shaded, close to parking and amenities, and the kids can have a go for bream and whiting. Pickup brine bait or lures, a light rod and a bucket for the catch (and the ice creams).
Launching and shore options
Trailer boaters, use the Lemon Tree Passage boat ramp. Get there early, as the queue builds fast by 7am. Shore-based fishos can work the wharf and foreshore on the incoming tide for whiting and bream.
